WHAT IS THE SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL?

The School Advisory Council (SAC) Guide is a resource for the school principal and SAC Chair. The SAC’s primary role is to assist in preparing and evaluating the school improvement plan for the current year (Fla. Stat. § 1001.452(2), 2021). The SAC also helps the principal plan the upcoming year’s budget (Fla. Stat. § 1001.452(2), 2021).

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Meetings Open to the Public Section 286.011(1) of the Florida Statutes (2021) requires that all meetings of any board or commission of any state agency shall be open to the public at all times, and no resolution, rule, or formal action shall be considered binding except as taken or made at such meeting. This includes SAC meetings.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS TO BE ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS?
    • The SAC committee provides a place where parents can voice their opinions and suggestions.  They have an active role in making decisions that will best serve the students.
    • SAC also gives the opportunity for parents to actively participate in setting goals and making plans to achieve those academic goals.
    • SAC allows for parents to identify issues that need to be addressed concerning the school climate.
